The Panthers polished off their three-peat with a 20-point win over underdog McKinney the next day, but the team’s run to the ‘ship and Anamekwe’s magic moment in San Antonio provided so many enduring memories for Watson and the program he’s run for more than two decades.“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched from all the different angles, and it couldn’t happen for a better kid,” Watson told the Express-News Thursday.
“Oh, I’m telling you, he’s a Beard guy,” Watson said. “And Texas did an unbelievable job recruiting him. I just think it's a classic example of coach Beard, you know, seeing beyond the stat line.” In essence, Anamekwe is the sort of Swiss Army knife role player idolized by Beard, who’s built a reputation as one of the nation’s best defensive coaches since debuting at Arkansas-Little Rock in 2015-16.
