Polling shows 21 per cent of 391 Tory councillors questioned said they had thought of switching parties at least once
One in five Conservative councillors have considered standing for another party, according to a new survey.
Some 77 per cent said they had never thought of leaving the Conservatives to stand for a rival party. Responding to the polling, a Tory party spokesperson dismissed the suggestion that Tory councillors were poised to jump ship. Dr Poulter said he had taken the decision because the Tories were “failing” the health service and that he could no longer “look my NHS colleagues in the eye” as a Conservative.
