Drivers in Anchorage and the surrounding area are urged to use caution after freezing rain created slippery roads and dangerous driving conditions Monday.from the National Weather Service cautioning of hazardous conditions and a light glaze on roadways remains in effect for Anchorage, Eagle River, Indian and Eklutna until 11 p.m.
The first reports of freezing rain came in late Sunday night on the Anchorage Hillside and out of Eagle River, said meteorologist Ray Christensen with the National Weather Service office in Anchorage.By 10 a.m. Monday, Anchorage reported between 1/100 to 1/10 of an inch of freezing rain, the weather service reported. The winter weather advisory noted that another round of freezing rain or drizzle was possible Monday afternoon into the evening, according to the advisory.
“For the rest of the day, we probably won’t see a lot more, maybe a couple sprinkles of it,” Christensen said.❄️ A Winter Wx Advisory for the Kenai Peninsula has been issued for freezing rain: 1PM today to 6AM Tuesday morning.
