Fran Drescher shared her insights into what she called a"standstill" between studios and the Hollywood performers currently on strike, saying the companies hope to wait out union efforts.

The Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has been on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for 55 days as of Friday. Drescher, as the SAG-AFTRA president, gave an interview to NPR explaining the current state of negotiations.

Last week, the union announced it would be extending its health plan coverage for one calendar quarter for those qualified union members. This comes weeks after the union raised $15 million through its Emergency Financial Assistance Program between the time the strike began and the beginning of August. Drescher went on to blame the studio's"greed" and"insatiable appetite for money" for extending the negotiation.

"They're still not seeing that the culture needs to change, that they need to change. This conversation is bigger than our contract," Drescher said."It's about caring. It's about being empathic. It's about making money, but not at the expense. Don't step on me, climb on my shoulders, beat me down just so that you can make an extra shekel. Sorry, but that is no longer acceptable.

Meanwhile, the Writers Guild of America is approaching its 130th day of striking. This is the first time WGA and SAG-AFTRA are simultaneously on strike in 63 years, with Ronald Reagan at the helm before he ran for president for the last most recent strike.
