The pressure is on for real estate and workplace teams to find savings while luring workers back into offices. The problem is that it's become exponentially more complicated to define the quantity and types of office space needed to support employees as companies move to hybrid workplace settings that see attendance vary dramatically across the week.
If, after considering the points above, you decide to implement a sensor-based strategy, you may want to keep the following tips in mind: • Approach workplace data without assumptions. For example, one company we worked with witnessed an unexplained and precipitous drop in utilization on half of an office floor. The space wasn't suddenly too hot, too cold or too noisy. It turned out that two malfunctioning security gates to the left of the elevator were blocking access. When employees passed through gates to the right, they kept walking in that direction—thus increasing utilization on that side of the floor.
