Fortnite just blew up its map and the game doesn't exist anymore. Not kidding, all that's left is a black hole when you log in. Here's what happened.
Everyone was flung not just in the air, but completely off the map. After hanging there for a bit, we were all sucked into the vortex, map included, and then the entire game blinked out of existence. You can exit this screen, but Fortnite as a game has ceased to exist. At least for a while.Thematically, Fortnite is trying to act like they killed the game. This black hole thing is all that exists of the game.
What’s really going on? This is a precursor to server downtime, and no doubt paving the way for the debut of the new Fortnite map that has been rumored and leaked for ages now. But this time, it’s really happening. The bad news is that we have literally no idea when this map is arriving in the game nor when servers will come back or we’ll see something other than this black hole, which does not seem to be changing or getting any bigger.
Usually server downtime for Fortnite patches lasts anywhere from an hour to a few hours, but with a whole new map, with Fortnite potentially launching a whole new season today with battle pass and challenges and so on, this could be a while. Check back here for black hole updates but until then, enjoy a world without Fortnite for a few hours. Also, the event even happened if you were hanging out in the lobby:
