Hours before Hamas attacked Israel, a Fort Worth attorney and wife were en route to the United States. His daughter and grandchildren barely escaped.

He was also in Israel for his grandson’s third birthday, a time when some Jewish boys get their first haircut. The birthday celebration was on a rooftop overlooking Jerusalem.“They picked a holy day to do the attack when they feel that our guard is down,” he said. His daughter and her familiy decided to drive to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, where they caught a flight on the Israeli airline El Al. The other major airlines canceled their flights after the attack.
