Police in Fort Bend County made eight DWI arrests over the Christmas and New Year's holidays as part of a “No Refusal” initiative, the county's district attorney’s office reported Tuesday.Prosecutors charged eight people with driving while intoxicated over the Christmas and New Year's holidays in Fort Bend County as part ofThree of the suspects agreed to a blood test, while five refused and were subsequently served with search warrants for their blood.
Prosecutors, peace officers and nurses worked over Christmas and New Year’s weekend to present search warrants and take blood samples. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld blood search warrants as legal to obtain evidence in DWI cases. The goal of the grant-funded"No Refusal" program is to improve public safety with increased police presence during the hours when impaired driving is most likely to occur. It is a cooperative effort between the district attorney's office and local law enforcement agencies.
