“This morning, I filed to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States,” Hurd told “CBS Mornings.” Hurd, who was first elected to his congressional seat in 2014 and did not run for reelection in 2020, now enters the crowded presidential field as a major underdog., Hurd listed illegal immigration, inflation and other problems as his motivation to run.
“President [Joe] Biden can’t solve these problems — or won’t,” Hurd said. “And if we nominate a lawless, selfish, failed politician like Donald Trump — who lost the House, the Senate and the White House — we all know Joe Biden will win again.”
