Up until January, Colin Bright was the man behind the Paisley Panda mask, before a move to the other side of the world.

The Paisley Panda landed in Iceland following a 9,000-mile journey and a begging letter for time off for the experience of a lifetime.

He travelled to Reykjavík to watch the Buddies take on Besta deild karla side, FC Valur, in the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round. Powered by the Paisley Daily Express, Renfrewshire Live is your go-to source for news, features and sport with live coverage provided direct to the app, seven days a week.

“Getting to watch my team in Europe is a bucket list item and when they qualified last season I knew that I would be wherever they would be. However, getting time off school when it is during the term is really difficult. I essentially had to beg the headteacher to let me go.Colin posted an image of the letter he sent to the school’s headteacher online in which he said due to St Mirren achieving the “unimaginable”, he was looking to have one week of unpaid leave off.

The primary teacher’s class also got involved in his travel preparation as they created an itinerary to ensure everything was in order.
