Former Democratic Kentucky Gov. John Y. Brown Jr. died Tuesday at the age of 88.
Brown served from 1979 until 1983 as governor of the Bluegrass State, but he was also known for his role in popularizing the fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken.In 1964, Brown co-purchased KFC from Harland Sanders and transformed the restaurant into a global brand, with the chain becoming the largest fast-food chain in the world for a short time.
