Andrea Bacsa was accused of sexually abusing three inmates during his work as a corrections officer.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A former Cuyahoga County Jail officer was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday for sexually assaulting three mentally ill inmates.

“You are their keeper,” Synenberg told Bacsa before handing down the sentence. “You are there to protect them. You are there in a position of power and trust, in a uniform with a badge in an unleveled playing field. You’re not there to bring them food, to cook with them. The lines aren’t blurred; you completely crossed the lines.”

Bacsa told Synenberg he considered those inmates to be his friends and spent a lot of time with them, whether it was the inmates showing him works of their art or a tattoo design they had in mind or food they would offer him. One of Bacsa’s victims, who appeared by video, said at the time of the incident he was already going through a lot of issues.
