Senior Cormac Smith tallied all three of his rushing touchdowns in the first half to help Hawthorne take a 28-7 lead into halftime.
Tyler Mene’s second touchdown run of the night in the third quarter gave Hawthorne a 35-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter. North Arlington answered back with two touchdowns in the final 12 minutes, but it was enough as Hawthorne held on for its first victory of the 2023 season. Senior kicker Dominic Passero was five-for-five on extra point attempts in the contest for Hawthorne.Hawthrone travels to play St. Mary on Sept. 9, while North Arlington will host Pompton Lakes on Sept. 8.
