Josh McLendon steps down after seven years as Greenville High’s head football coach. McLendon says he 'will remain employed with the Butler County School System.'
Published: Mar. 31, 2022, 2:25 p.m.Greenville football coach Josh McLendon has stepped down after seven years as the Tigers head football coach.on Thursday that the Greenville administration informed him it was their wish to move the program in a different direction.
“This led me to make the difficult decision to step down as the GHS Head Football Coach and Athletic Director,” McLendon wrote in a text message to AL.com. “Although I will no longer be serving in these positions, I will remain employed with the Butler County School System.” McLendon went 48-31 at Greenville, leading the team to the playoffs five times. His 2018 team went to the 5A semifinals before losing to Vigor. The Tigers went 8-4 in 2021, losing 14-12 at UMS-Wright in the second round of the playoffs.
“Over the past seven years, I have enjoyed serving alongside the coaching staff and working with the student-athletes,” he wrote. “I thank them for their dedication to the GHS Football Program, and I wish them all continued success.”In nine years as a head coach overall, he is 66-36.
