An attorney for the Floyd family said Wednesday afternoon that George Floyd was “tortured” in the last minutes of his life, and called for arrests of the three remaining officers allegedly involved in Floyd’s death prior to his memorial tomorrow.“We expect all the police officers to be arrested before we have the memorial tomorrow,” said Ben Crump an attorney for the Floyd family on Wednesday at the memorial site for Floyd at the location of his death in Minneapolis.
“We come here today to this spot to remember George Floyd, who was tortured in the last 8 minutes and 46 seconds of his life,” said Crump to a crowd of demonstrators and members of the media. “I appreciate everyone showing their support and love...This is so emotional,” said Quincy Mason Floyd, George Floyd’s son in a short and sobering address. “This can’t happen to anybody else.”“The ambulance that came to pick him up was a hearse for George Floyd,” said Crump. “He died because he was starving for air; he needed a breathe.”
Crump ended his address for people to “take a breathe” for unarmed black Americans who have been killed by police officers. Derek Chauvin, who pinned Floyd to the ground with a knee to his neck for almost nine minutes, has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter and is currently in police custody; Attorney General Keith Ellison is expected to make an announcement Wednesday afternoon about the three other officers involved.“George died because he needed a breathe. I am imploring, along with George Floyd’s family, for all of us to take a breathe. Let’s take a breathe for peace.
