Florida Democratic Party officials are weighing whether to oust Chair Terrie Rizzo after the party accepted federal aid intended to help small businesses hammered by the coronavirus pandemic

TALLAHASSEE — , according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.

In April, the party accepted $815,000 in Paycheck Protection Program funds, sparking an internal clash as Democrats “If the chair was not in the know about the loan, why not? If the chair looks the other way, that makes the chair complicit. If the chair knew and went along with it, the chair is equally guilty,” said a party official who was briefed on the call and has concerns about Democrats accepting the federal aid.

Hours before the party said it would return money, state Sen. Jason Pizzo told POLITICO the party's acceptance of the loan might be illegal, given a SBA guideline that the money could not be used for direct political purposes.
