Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 35 counties as Tropical Storm Milton intensifies into a Category 1 hurricane and threatens the Sunshine State. The storm is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane before making landfall on the West Florida Coast by midweek, bringing with it the risk of life-threatening storm surge and high winds.
Milton was upgraded from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday as it churns in the Gulf of Mexico. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency in 35 counties as the storm takes aim on the Sunshine State.“This system could become a major hurricane near or at landfall along the West Florida Coast by the middle of next week,” said DeSantis’ executive order.
