Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 6:30 p.m. for Camden County, Northwestern Gloucester County and West Central Burlington County. The service said wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail are possible. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is also occurring with these storms, the National Weather Service said.
A special weather statement was also issued for New Brunswick, South Plainfield and Somerset until 6:30 p.m. due to storms. Storms continue to cause issues across the state, as many communities are hosting Fourth of July festivities or planning for fireworks displays. However, a severe thunderstorm warning for Northern Hunterdon and South Central Warren counties was canceled as the storm that prompted the alert weakened.
