FKA twigs details her plans for a new dance collective, her shea butter obsession, and her role as the face of Viktor&Rolf’s latest fragrance, Good Fortune.
You’ve mentioned working in a department store early on. What did you take away from that experience?
There was a time when I had four jobs in London: I was a youth worker, a backing dancer, I worked at Tiger Tiger in Piccadilly, and also in Selfridges. I actually sold the Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb perfume there, which is funny, how these things come back around. It really affected my life in terms of just that element of service, to make people feel good.
You first teased on Instagram that you’d be working with choreographer Juliano Nunes—later revealed in “Juliano, first of all, he is so playful, and he’s so wonderful to work with. In many ways he brings out the best mover in me. I worked with him on myperformance for “Cellophane,” and on the pole dance—he’s not a pole dancer, but he just adds so much feeling. When he dances, every muscle is connected to the destination of where he’s going.
