WATER SAFETY - Memorial Day weekend signals the unofficial start to summer as well as boating and swimming season. Utah saw 45 unintentional drownings in 2020, the highest in a decade.
Thursday, local first responders and Intermountain Healthcare trauma leaders teamed up to try and raise awareness for water safety.
The Heber City resident lost his 17-year-old son, Kalem, to a drowning at Deer Creek Reservoir on June 29, 2011. According to data from the Utah Department of Health, Utah saw 45 unintentional drownings in 2020, the highest in a decade. As for Franco, he says if his son had been wearing a life jacket on that June day nearly 11 years ago, he believes he would still be alive.
