Man was pulled out by rip currents on Stone Harbor beach pummeled by recent storms.
First responders gather on the beach in Stone Harbor to rescue a man struggling in the water on Saturday, October 15, 2022. First responders and a pair of Good Samaritans helped pull a man swept some 100 yards out into the ocean by powerful rip currents back to shore in Stone Harbor Saturday morning, according to authorities and one of the rescuers.
Zeke Orzech had been surfing the swells near 102nd Street Saturday morning when he decided to call it quits. A friend flagged him down as he drove past the local fire station and said there was a report of a person in distress.
“We got to him, we held onto him, we pushed him in a bit and then those guys came and finished the job,” Orzech said.said the victim, whom authorities did not identify, was returned to shore by Firefighters Eric Staeger and Lou Donofrio III. He was taken to Cape Regional Health System for treatment. Information on his condition was not immediately available.
