🔥UPDATE: Fire crews have contained the Border 24 Fire burning in the East San Diego County community of Dulzura. Crews will continue working overnight.
Cal Fire crews have contained a vegetation fire that broke out Monday evening in Dulzura, a community in far East San Diego County, less than 3 miles from the U.S.--Mexico border, according to the agency.
The fire had spread 5-10 acres in the Cottonwood Creek area off Marron Valley Road in Dulzura, but by 9:30 p.m., fire crews contained it to 19 acres, according to Cal Fire San Diego. Crews would remain on the scene overnight to strengthen the control lines around the fire, Cal Fire wrote on social media.Sign up for NBC San Diego newsletters.
On Tuesday, firefighters will ensure all hot spots have been mitigated on what firefighters dubbed the Border 24 Fire. At its height, black smoke could be seen on SDG&E's AlertWildfire Cameras billowing from the rocky, mountainous terrain.
