Around 94% of fire service call outs to the eight Belfast Trust hospitals were false alarms
The fire service has been called to nearly 2,000 false alarm reports at Belfast Trust Hospitals over the past five years.
From January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2023, there were 2,033 calls to attend one of their eight hospitals with 1,916 of these being false alarms.The Royal Victoria Hospital has had the most false alarm calls during this period with 624, and 39 actual call-outs. This is followed by Knockbracken Healthcare Park with 438 false alarms and seven actual call-outs, and Belfast City Hospital with 247 false alarms and 29 actual call-outs.
A Belfast Health and Social Care Trust has said that it takes fire safety very seriously and that it works closely with the NIFRS to reduce the number of false alarms and call outs. "Belfast Trust have a close working relationship with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, regular meetings are held to discuss the number of false alarms and every effort is made to reduce incidents of these call outs as far as possible."
