A total of 24 fines are to be handed out for the notorious 'jingle and mingle' Christmas party at the Tory headquarters during lockdown. It took place in December 2020 at the Conservative Campaign Headquarters for activists on behalf of Shaun Bailey’s unsuccessful effort to be London mayor.
The investigation into the party was reopened in July this year after a video clip published by the Mirror showed staff appearing to dance, drink and joke about Covid restrictions. The BBC also published an invitation, revealing the event was called 'jingle and mingle'. Lord Bailey has been contacted for comment. At the time of the event London was under Tier-2 restrictions which banned indoor socialising between people from different households.
"Senior CCHQ staff became aware of an unauthorised social gathering in the basement of Matthew Parker Street organised by the Bailey campaign on the evening of 14 December 2020," the spokesman said.
