Director Jake Rademacher discusses his experience of making both his documentaries 'Brothers At War' and 'Brothers After War.'
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A filmmaker focused on the experience of soldiers. Jake Rademacher has now made two documentaries highlighting the struggles of soldiers and their families during the War on Terror.
The rare opportunity to engage with so many different units allowed Rademacher to put together a collective perspective from soldiers. But, he says his boots on the ground experience “was scary at times” but his side by side journey with soldiers allowed him to make deeper connections. “The editing process was brutal,” he continued. Once he returned home, a challenge of compiling the story remained for Rademacher. Shooting over 200 hours for the first film “Brothers At War,” the film itself was edited down to “an hour and forty-five minutes,” said Rademacher.
