If passed, it will make Fife the fourth council to declare a housing emergency - following the example of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Argyll and Bute.

The motion asks councillors to note with "great concern the extreme pressures on housing and homelessness in Fife". "Despite reprovisioning of temporary accommodation and increasing the number of properties available for relet, the number of households assessed as homeless and waiting for a tenancy and the number of families with children in temporary accommodation remains worryingly high,” it stated. "Like other local authorities across Scotland, Fife faces difficulties in meeting its statutory duties in regard to homelessness." It follows a seven per cent increase in the number of people presenting themselves as homeless in Fife in the last year. Councillors have also warned there were around 1,900 households in the Kingdom assessed as homeless and waiting for a council tenancy. Emergency services were called to Whitehall Drive in Cardenden after the alarm was raised at 10.45pm on Sunday. The video shows aggressive flames ripping through the car near to a garden fence. There were no reported injuries. Officers investigating the incident say they are treating the blaze as wilful. Inquiries at this stage remain ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45pm on Sunday, March 17 we were made aware of a vehicle fire on Whitehall Drive in the Cardenden area of Fife. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.” The Record has approached the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for comment.
