Liam Fosbrook, in a 'misguided act to defend his sister, made the choice to arm himself', prosecutors said. He now faces years behind bars.
As he waited in his sister's living room, he knew someone was coming. Exhausted, paranoid and motivated by a fierce loyalty to his older sibling Tara, Liam Fosbrook was readying himself for a fight.
And so, in the cold December of 2021, when Dylan turned up outside the mother's home once again, Fosbrook, then 26, took it upon himself to 'sort out' the man who had blighted his sister's life. The pair had been together for a while, but the volatile relationship came to an end in 2021. Unable to move on, Dylan continued 'pestering' Tara, turning up at her house in the early hours, calling her incessantly and being abusive.
One was holding a 'handgun', the other a 'shotgun', he claimed in court. "I did not see that as a toy," Fosbrook told the jury. "The order was made to protect Tara and her children from violence, or threats of violence as the court had found that Dylan had been violent to her in the past," defence barrister Sean Larkin KC told jurors.
"But the social worker, she has ruined my life. I hate how cruel this life is. She knows that domestic relationships like this don't end straight away." Meanwhile, Dylan had messaged Tara, telling her to 'kill herself' and to 'make sure she did it properly'. On December 14, he turned up at her new house in Brinnington, before neighbours forced him to leave.
He then messaged Tara: "Spoke to mum before, she said you're not doing too well. Don't get too caught up sis, you've gone through hell. Will need time to settle." It was fixed by Stockport Homes, but he still felt unsafe in the house. "All these events were led through him," Fosbrook told the jurors, holding back tears. "This was the reason the kids were taken away."
