Ineos founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks set to gain a 25 per cent stake in Man United and will have plenty to address upon his arrival.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not be short of problems to address if he takes charge of footballing operations at Manchester United and two former players have identified one of his biggest challenges.
It was an issue pinpointed by former captain Rio Ferdinand ahead of United's 1-0 Champions League win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday. He was asked specifically about Casemiro, who cost £70million last summer and penned a four-year deal, aged 30. The crux of United's problems in the transfer market has been their inability to generate revenue from sales. Erik ten Hag has found himself strapped for cash on numerous occasions over the last year or so and was unable to buy anyone last January due to a lack of funds.
“There are very few players that excel at Manchester United in this last ten years, they were all great players when they came to the club, they were all wanted by other clubs. They won these players off of other clubs and then they end up coming to Manchester United and they end up not succeeding and not performing to their levels, why is that?"
