\u0022People that live in rural areas need to have the same access to really good, reliable internet service, same as people that live in urban areas.\u0022

The First Nation aims to change that, as one of the recipients of roughly $6.6 million in federal funding to bring its internet connections up to speed.

Access Communications Cooperative Limited will get $528,909 for the communities of Macklin and Shaunavon in the west and southwest, respectively. The majority of the projects should be done by fall, said Minister of Rural Economic Development Gudie Hutchings. “It’s good news, but we’re hoping that it helps rural because if some of this goes into villages, it doesn’t actually go outside of the ,” he said.
