Metro spokeswoman Kristie Swink Benson said the officer also was injured, but did not specify how. She also did not identify the agency for whom the officer works. D.C. police said they have taken the lead on the investigation.. Police cars surrounded the station and caution tape kept passersby away from the area.“Somebody die?” said Chris McNair, 34, as he pulled up to the station and saw the flashing blue and red lights. He was rushing to a 7:35 p.m. yoga class in Ballston.
Authorities said the agent was approached by a man who was panhandling and got into a verbal altercation with him. The agent argued he fired his gun to defend himself after the man made threats and appeared to take an aggressive posture.This is a developing story and will be updated.
