Two years in development, this watershed seventh collection from Fear of God is intended as a coming of age: a transitional punctuation mark between “emerging” and “emerged.” As Jerry Lorenzo outlined in a patchy Zoom from Los Angeles, the mark of that maturation is the introduction of three categories—tailoring, knitwear, and accessories—that have until now been beyond the Fear of God experience.
“I think in areas like denim, jersey, French terry, the expertise here in L.A. is better than anywhere in the world, and I wouldn’t go elsewhere,” he said. “But for these new elements we looked farther.” It was while developing his recent collaboration with Ermenegildo Zegna that Lorenzo began scouting potential partner suppliers in Italy and laying out his vision for a new, full-fledged luxury proposition. The result was a layered integration of FOG’s core new-American-luxury expertise that blends low-shouldered, wide-revere, cropped-sleeve tailoring and outerwear in impeccable fabrications against the carefully weathered sports and workwear-lineaged wardrobe that is Lorenzo’s home metier.
