In what could be a major breakthrough for coronavirus testing, the FDA gives emergency authorization for a new kind of saliva-based screening
New guidelines from the CDC say patients who have recovered from COVID-19 don't need to quarantine or get tested for up to three months.
Developed by Yale's School of Public Health, the SalivaDirect test offers an approach unique in its attempt to bypass some of the more time-consuming and cost-prohibitive supplies and aspects of the testing process. It doesn't require Spectrum collections tubes or certain chemical reagents, which can be expensive and in scarce supply.
