💬 'We are thinking long and hard about the crops we grow and how we can survive going forward' 🔴 Farms and bakeries consider shutting down after government confirms energy support to be cut
Businesses including farmers and bakers are planning to reduce operations or close down entirely after the Government confirmed plans to reduce its energy bill support package from March this year.unveiled by the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt on Monday
It differs from the support scheme currently in place this winter, which has placed a cap on the amount businesses can pay for energy. Last summer Mr Browne signed onto a new fixed term contract that saw his annual electricity bill increase from £178,000 per year to £900,000. “We are thinking long and hard about the crops we grow and how we can survive going forward really,” he said, adding that they have already cut their potato area by 30 per cent.
Last year his energy bills almost doubled to £500 per month. However, they have now reduced to £145-160 per month due to a combination of the Government’s support package and new working methods.
