'Couldn't have been more surprised'
Fans were left emotional during Peter Kay's opening night of his Manchester residency after a touching gesture. The hit comedian pledged that a portion of the ticket sales would be donated to a charity in memory of a beloved daughter and campaigner who died from cancer.
Peter performed two sold-out Q&A sessions at the 3,500-capacity Manchester Apollo, called Doing it for Laura, to raise money for her treatment. The money allowed Nuttall to travel to Germany for specialist treatment that was unavailable in the UK. She had previously had extensive cancer treatment including surgery to remove a tumour, only for it to come back days later.
Despite travelling back and forth to Germany, undergoing more surgery, working as an ambassador for The Brain Tumour Charity and helping out in her community, she graduated from her politics, philosophy and economics degree last summer with proud mum Nicola, sister Grace and dad Mark by her side. Sadly, her cancer progressed quickly last autumn, and the family decided to bring forward their festive celebrations to early November to ensure Laura would be able to enjoy one last Christmas. Despite the cancer progressing, Laura defied expectations once again and was able to fight on until the early hours of this morning when she passed away surrounded by her loved ones.
