Family's agony as Chorley dad's life-support switched off after he suffered three heart attacks
The family of a Chorley dad who died after taking drugs have spoken of the devastating moment doctors told them they were switching off the machines keeping him alive.
David was rushed to Chorley Hospital with paramedics advising Lisa contact his family because of the seriousness of his condition. After the ambulance arrived at the hospital doctors discovered David had suffered three heart attacks. He was transferred to the Critical Care Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital where he was immediately sedated. David required extensive cardiovascular support and was on the maximum amount of oxygen and the following day, on Monday October 10, they gave his family the devastating news that he had suffered a hypoxic brain injury and there was no hope of him recovering.
Describing how things developed at the Royal Preston Hospital after David was transferred there Lisa wrote: "David managed to stabilise slightly but we were told there was still no reaction in his eyes and brain damage had occurred. We stayed all night and on Monday they said they were going to start withdrawing sedation to see if he could do anything himself and if the machines keeping him alive would be turned off.
