Centenarian Lillian 'Lil' Jones was 'devastated' to be told her care home was closing and she was being moved to the other side of the town.
The family of a centenarian and the staff who looked after her for three years were in tears as she was wheeled out of the care home ahead of a move across town. Lillian 'Lil' Jones was "devastated" to be told that Hollins Care Centre in Cimla, Neath Port Talbot, was being closed.
Directors at the site, operated by Cherish Care Homes, said the council confirmed the move on Monday, October 16, and gave them 90 days to arrange relocation for all their residents. Some residents have already been moved elsewhere, including Mrs Jones, who was put on a hospital bed and driven away in an ambulance to Baglan Lodge nursing home, four miles away. Her loved ones were joined by more than a dozen heartbroken carers, who waved and cheered as she left, with some breaking down in tears after she departed.
Speaking about others being forced to move, Mr Jenkins said: "One of our residents very nearly died in the ambulance . He didn't want to go but we were told he had to, and his oxygen saturation level went to 70 - it should always be in the 90s. The move to the other care home meant he nearly died." Top UK & World stories today The letter to directors at Hollins Care Centre does not appear to give a clear reason for the decision to close the care home, but states that the council is exercising its right to "terminate the Agreement without cause by giving 90 days written notice".
