In professional darts, the women can more than hold their own with the men. Fallon Sherrock proved it this week at the PDC World Darts Championship in London, England, where she made history by becoming the first woman to defeat a man in the competition.
Sherrock made darts history by defeating Ted Evetts 3-2 in the first round of the championships. Needing a double 18 in the decisive fifth round to finish off the win, she nailed it on the second throw of her turn to send the packed venue into a jubilant celebration.according to The Guardian ."I feel really happy because I have proven something for women’s darts, that women can play the men and beat them, so fingers crossed this is a move in the right direction. I’m over the moon, I can’t believe it!"
Sherrock is one of five women who have competed in the men's PDC world championship; the organization created a qualification pathway last year that ensures two places in the 96-person field go to women every year. The 25-year-old from Buckinghamshire, England, earned her spot in this year's competition by winning the qualifying event for the UK and Ireland. She finished as the runner-up in the British Darts Organization championship in 2015, and is currently ranked No. 4 by the organization.
