It appears there are many more uses for the humble spud than just adding to your plate at mealtimes - and some could make a big difference to winter driving

Drivers should rub a potato on their windscreen to help with winter weather. According to experts at John Clark Motor Group using the starchy vegetable can help stop heavy frost from building up on the glass.

John Clark Motor Group said: “This one really isn’t just an old wives’ tale! Rubbing the cut side of half a potato against the outer surface can make a real difference to your windscreen. Presenter Mia Gordon said: “There’s actually some things you can do the night before to prepare yourself and your car to avoid any freezing the next morning. Take a potato and cut it in half and then rub it on your car’s windshield.

Ad while the side without any potato starch rapidly steamed up the other half was clear. Los Angeles-based "Bezerra Good Tips" also showed the starch helped clear water off a windscreen in the event of heavy rainfall.
