Mayor-elect Donna Deegan hasn’t taken office yet, but she has already experienced her first veto.

The Acosta Bridge in downtown Jacksonville is known for its colorful displays celebrating holidays like Christmas, Valentine’s Day and even the Jaguars, but Deegan’s inauguration on July 1 will not be celebrated.

They are requesting that on July 1, 2023, the Acosta Bridge displays the color “white”, in recognition of being the Mayor’s inauguration, and of being the first woman elected Mayor of the City of Jacksonville .
