Robert L. Breuder sued the College of DuPage, a suburban Chicago community college, and four members claiming he was wrongly fired in 2015.

The former president of the Pennsylvania College of Technology stands to receive $4 million to settle a federal lawsuit over his 2015 firing by a Chicago area community college.

“This settlement validates those accomplishments for me and enables me and the College of DuPage to move forward.” Breuder had been placed on administrative leave in April 2015 and terminated that Oct. 20 despite having signed an agreement to retire March 30, 2016. His ouster was led by then board chair Katharine Hamilton who notified Breuder in a Sept. 24, 2015, five-page letter the college had found evidence of misconduct and mismanagement along with policy violations.

He claimed their actions caused irreparable damage to his personal and professional reputation, loss of various professional opportunities and acute emotional distress. Questions had arisen about his management style, the late former Penn College board chair and state Rep. Alvin C. Bush explained at the time.
