Jack McConnell and Henry McLeish both urged Nicola Sturgeon's successor to focus on fixing domestic issues rather than the constitutional debate
Two former Labour First Ministers have urged the country's next leader to put fixing the economy and the NHS before independence.
McConnell, who served as First Minister from 2001-2007, said Scotland's flatlining economy should be the first item on the agenda for Sturgeon's replacement. McLeish succeeded Donald Dewar as First Minister in October 2000 following the Scottish Labour leader's sudden death.
