One former Everton player who infamously left then-manager Carlo Ancelotti totally stumped almost fell out of the EFL completely this year.
Despite his brief stint at Everton, Ancelotti left a lasting impression. The ex-Milan and Napoli coach led Everton into the Champions League places at one point, and even signed 2014 World Cup star James Rodriguez. But it's perhaps one particular moment that went viral on social media that really encapsulates his time with The Blues.
During his time at Everton, Garbutt was loaned out to several clubs including Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Wigan Athletic, Fulham, Oxford United and Ipswich Town. Then during a memorable Zoom press conference, Carlo Ancelotti was quizzed about Luke Garbutt's departure from Everton after an 11-year stint, the Mirror reports.
This brief exchange inadvertently thrust Garbutt, 30, into the spotlight more than his time on the pitch for the Toffees ever did. Garbutt, however, did go on to play for Blackpool post-Everton in 2020, clocking up 65 appearances, and later transferred to Salford City in June 2023.
