Clones play a key role in both Star Wars continuities, and there are a number of clone templates used in canon and Legends stories.
Clones play an invaluable role in the Star Wars franchise, with numerous characters serving as clone templates in both the original continuity, Legends , and the current canon which began in 2014. Cloning was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in A New Hope via references to the Clone Wars, but Legends-era material would give clones key roles in novels like Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy and comics like Tom Veitch’s Dark Empire.
Clone Templates Of The Imperial Military While Jango Fett’s clone troopers became the first stormtroopers in both canon and Legends, they gradually died out, grew too old to serve the Empire, or overcame their brainwashing and left the authoritarian regime. Though most of the Empire’s elite Stormtrooper Corps soon became comprised of human recruits, the Legends continuity had the regime continue to use clones in the Corps to a limited degree.
Darth Vader As shown in John Whitman’s Legends-era novel, Star Wars: Galaxy of Fear: Clones, Darth Vader was inadvertently cloned by an automated cloning facility on Dantooine. The Jedi-built facility, which was a rare example of Jedi experimentation in cloning, used a blood sample left behind by a wounded Vader to make an insane clone of the Sith Lord.
Emperor Palpatine In both canon and Legends, Emperor Palpatine uses cloned bodies and the Sith power of essence transfer to cheat death after the events of Return of the Jedi. In the Legends continuity’s Dark Empire comics, Palpatine uses this trick multiple times, only meeting his final demise when Empatojayos Brand and the spirits of countless Jedi trap his own in the netherworld of the Force.
