Things could change in the coming days as the board assesses the best course of action, but they are likely to give Lampard more time, with crucial Premier League games against Southampton and West Ham, sitting close to them in the table, remaining this month.
Lampard said afterwards that he understood the fans’ frustrations and insisted he would “keep working” to turn around the side’s poor form. It was a 19th defeat in 36 Everton league games for Lampard – and they have won only once in the last 10 – but he has been in charge for less than a year and is leading the club in a difficult transitional period when they would prefer to build around a head coach rather opt for yet another managerial change.
