Evergreen Park resident Vince Lambert was entrenched in a 20-year career managing two banks when he decided it was time for a change. Now he's going on 15 years as a chaplain for the Illinois Army National Guard and was recently promoted.

Heading into his 15th year as an Army chaplain, Lambert enjoys his job more than ever. Connecting and mentoring others while sharing God’s word are just some of the reasons he loves his work.Now the Illinois Army National Guard’s deputy command chaplain, he has responsibility for all 10,000 soldiers in the Illinois Army National Guard,” according to a news release from the Illinois National Guard public affairs office in Springfield.
In many ways, being a military chaplain has similar duties to those of a civilian minister, including preaching, counseling and responding to crisis, he said. He has a love for people, is empathetic and compassionate and is following God’s direction. He offers marriage enrichment classes and cultivates relationships among the service members.
