Local activists will be hosting events and marches next week to mark one year since eight Akron police officers fatally shot Jayland Walker.

The bullets of eight officers struck Walker 45 times on June 27, 2022 after a car chase over a broken taillight and license plate light. Walker was unarmed when he was shot but had fired a gun out of his car window while fleeing. His death pushed Akron into the nation’s conversation of police accountability and led to months of protests over police brutality, specifically against Black Americans.
