Ethiopia’s Tigray rebels join forces with other armed and opposition groups in a new escalation of a war that threatens to tear apart the country

Tigray fighters and their allies say they are pressing south toward the capital, Addis Ababa, after driving government troops from Tigray in June.

The new alliance includes the Tigray People’s Liberation Front , the Oromo Liberation Army, and seven other groups from around the country. He said the new alliance is both political and military.
