New York’s state ethics watchdog is probing former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s controversial use of COVID-19 pandemic response “volunteers” amid conflict of interest concerns — and is ready to subpoena his replacement, Gov. Kathy Hochul, to get to the truth.asking Hochul’s office to turn over records on unpaid officials who played a part in her disgraced processor’s handling of the crisis.
“We don’t know who the volunteers were. We don’t know whether they were true volunteers or not,” JCOPE Commissioner Gary Lavine said on Tuesday,The subpoena seeks a list of those who were considered “volunteers,” and in turn were exempted from the state Public Officers law and financial disclosure rules, as well as information regarding any conflicts of interest and how they were handled by the Cuomo administration, Lavine told the outlet.
