España ha despojado al difunto dictador chileno Augusto Pinochet de una condecoración militar que le otorgó hace más de 40 años el general Francisco Franco.
El consejo de ministros del gobierno interino anunció el martes que se le quitaba a Pinochet la Gran Cruz al Mérito Militar, una medalla al valor o al mérito, otorgada a Pinochet en 1975.
En la víspera se recordó el 50 aniversario del golpe de Estado militar, encabezado por Pinochet con respaldo de Estados Unidos, que instaló una dictadura brutal en Chile. Pinochet, que gobernó durante 17 años y murió en 2006, jamás fue juzgado por los crímenes de lesa humanidad cometidos bajo su régimen.La vocera del gobierno español, Isabel Rodríguez, dijo que la medida revelaba el apego de España a los valores democráticos.
El presidente del gobierno, Pedro Sánchez, dijo el lunes que hace 50 años la democracia chilena “fue víctima de un ataque brutal que estremeció al mundo”. Despojar a Pinochet de la medalla española significa “reparar una injusticia histórica”, escribió Sánchez en la red social X, antes Twitter.
