The driver and three students — all 14-year-old girls — got into a physical altercation on the bus Tuesday afternoon, police said
Escondido police are investigating a report of a fight on a bus involving three 14-year-old San Pasqual High students and a 64-year-old bus driver that occurred after school Tuesday.
The driver of the North County Transit District bus picked up students from a stop near the high school around 4:20 p.m. At some point, several students caused a disturbance on the bus that prompted the driver to shut off the bus’ engine and call a supervisor, said police spokesperson Lt. Suzanne Baeder.
Before he could call police, however, the students who had caused the disturbance attempted to exit the bus. The driver stood in the doorway, and an altercation between the driver and at least two girls occurred. “The bus driver eventually moved, but as the female students exited the bus, the driver pushed one of the students and another altercation began,” Baeder said in a press release. “One of the female students began punching the 64-year-old driver and then knocked him to the ground, with a third student joining in on the fight.”A male student and an off-duty security guard riding on the bus came to the driver’s aid and pulled the attackers away. The students ran off, Baeder said.
Baeder said the Escondido Unified High School District is aware of the incident and is working with the Escondido Police Department. It was not immediately known if the students were facing disciplinary action.
